Q: Mr. Shaw, is there homework tonight?
A: Yes.
Q: Do we have to do the odds, or all the problems?
A: Do what I assign, everything else is extra practice if you feel you need it.
Q: Can I use a pen on the assignment?
A: If for some reason you don’t have access to a pencil, do your assignments in pen. The reason for using a pencil is that if you make a mistake, you can erase it instead of scribble it out.
Q: Will this be in on the test / quiz?
A: Unless I specifically say otherwise, yes. Be prepared!
Q: Why do we have to learn this?
A: I’m very tempted to answer “because I said so”, but here is my answer. Math is one of the most important subjects that you need for your daily life. You may not realize it now, but you will be using math as an adult. You are even doing math outside of class now! Your job, like your parents’ jobs, is to be a student. So, listen carefully, and be ready, fellow student!
